The Perfect Olympus Camera Bag

Cameras have stopped being just cameras. Different lenses, filters, flashlights, battery cells, chargers and other accessories have all become adjuncts to them. To carry all these items, one needs a bag. Such a bag should not only enable the entire ensemble to be packed and carried, it should also be convenient to access the different parts as well as offer protection from the elements. Moreover, it should also be possible to carry the bag in a convenient manner, preferably not adding much to the weight of the equipment. Aesthetic appeal would be an added attraction too.

Today, it is possible to get bags which are stylish, designed professionally for easy accessibility of the parts, durable and yet of lightweight material.

If you are a photographer using an Olympus Camera, you will benefit by the advice given by some professionals in choosing the right bag for your equipment. First of all, determine the overall size of the bag. Ensure that the design of the compartments will accommodate your Olympus Camera and accessories. Then, spend time on the selection process. There is no point in buying one bag only to find later that some of the equipment cannot be accommodated or accessed.

Decide on how you wish to carry the bag. You will have a choice of shoulder bags, backpacks, and strap on waist bags. You must be comfortable carrying the bag even in rough terrain. You should also decide on the type of cases you will use, such as hard cases, tropicalized cases, watertight cases, or floating cases.

The ideal camera bags will have wide and non-slip padded straps encircling the whole bag, rather than just attached at the top ends. They will also have ergonomically designed handles for comfortable carrying by hand when needed.

The choice of the size for your specific needs can be determined by first assessing the space you will need. Spread all the equipment that you have on a table, and sort them into two piles. One for the frequently used, and the other for the less frequently used. This will give you a rough idea, though it would be useful to build in a cushion factor to accommodate more at need.

A medium sized bag, approximately 14x8x10 inches (WxHxD) is often the choice of most photographers. This bag can accommodate two cameras, flash units, a few lenses, and some other accessories besides mundane stuff like a notebook and a pen.

There are smaller, well designed bags available for beginners. If however you use Olympus camera models, you would be well advised to choose the 10x8x8 inches size. This would accommodate one camera, up to three lenses, some accessories and films. A belt type bag will be more comfortable and will allow easy access to the camera and accessories.

It is also advisable that you choose two small or medium sized bags. One large bag is likely to be difficult to carry when fully loaded. It is also a good idea to have one of these as a backpack bag for the telephoto lenses. While dividers or partitions are advisable, ensure that they are not of cardboard, which are not durable.

Inspect the quality of the material used so that you get good quality – preferably ballistic nylon or Dupont Cordura. You could also consider canvas and leather. If you choose the synthetic material, be sure that it is of a minimum 600-denier tenacity. (Denier indicates the strength and thickness of the material.) Zip fasteners must be open ended for easy access. When closed, they should offer a leak proof seam. The seams must be well stitched and sealed for keeping away moisture. They should be reinforced at the top and the bottom.

Compare prices by all means, but stay away from visually appealing but cheap bags - get value-for-money bags. With the above advice, you are now ready to have an enjoyable experience in choosing a bag for your Olympus camera and its accessories.
