The Essentials Of A Horse Racing Betting System

Horse racing is all about betting but this does not mean that you simply bet on any horse with a name for which takes your fancy, or the horse offering the best odds. There is a popular opinion that you need to be an expert at horse racing to be a winner.

You can develop a system of your own eventually, but here are some important factors, that need to be kept in mind for an effective one to be developed. These elements will enable you to select the right horse to bet on.

Distance - The length that the horse will need to run in a race to reach the winning post, is an extremely vital piece of information to decide on a bet. Too short a distance, and the horse may not be able to hit its stride, too long, and it may not have the stamina to finish the course, the jockey may fall off etc. The ideal length is in the range of five furlongs and in any case not more than three miles.

Number of Runners - The number of contending horses in an event is another important factor to consider. Too many means that there is more competition, making it difficult to choose the probable winner. The chances of any one winning are also less compared to field with fewer runners.

The Kind of Ground - Another factor is the type of ground that the horse will run on. You cannot go wrong with a "going" ground. Examine the ground to see if is soft or hard. The smoothness and hardness of the track is an important factor in a race. The size of the horse's hoofs also has a bearing on the race.

When the last race was run - the last run by the horse of your choice, will give you an indication of the horse's physical condition. If the horse has been racing for some time, it may be due to some problem. A safe bet would be on a horse that has run its last race in the current race, not earlier than say 28 days.

The horse's form - on the horse's form, there will be two prominent letters; C and D. C would indicate that the horse had won in a previous race in a specified track. D would indicate the same but with reference to the length of the race run. When either C or D is present in the form, it is a reasonable chance that your horse will win this time too.

Top Favorites - It is very likely that the top favorite horses listed so for the current season, will continue to perform well and win. It will be worth your while to check their form and their records in previous meets. If the odds offered is 3 to 1 or less, it will be an indication that it will be a good pick to bet on.
